We opened Dawn on the Amazon Cafe February 2010 for four reasons.
The water in Iquitos is not fit for human consumption. I needed a restaurant in Iquitos where I could eat and not be struck down by Montezuma’s, or the Inca’s, revenge. We needed fast internet and fast wifi, which is expensive in Iquitos Peru. There was ceviche, ceviche, ceviche, everywhere but not a good cheeseburger for a 1000 miles.
On our cruises, we served gourmet meals using purified water. We washed and rinsed our fruits and vegetables in purified water three times. We saw that our techniques minimized the chance of our guests coming down with traveler’s diarrhea.
We reasoned, what if we opened a restaurant using only purified water for ice, brewed coffee, espresso, cappuccino, frappuccino, tea, soup, juices, smoothies and everything including an emphasis on proper hygiene? We would appeal to travelers and tourists who obviously don’t want to be sick on their travels or vacations. Our niche was born. Your good health is our top priority.
While I have been thinking and writing about us, sitting here at the Dawn on the Amazon Cafe, in Iquitos Peru, it is a dream come true to be enjoying a very good cheeseburger, and using our fast internet and wi-fi in Iquitos Peru.
